Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy at St. Mary’s Home focuses on your child’s active participation and engagement in their life. We strive to help your child develop the skills and motivation to engage in the significant relationships in their lives and to participate in the activities that are important to them.

Physical therapy provides your child with opportunities to move and interact with their environment and to engage with family, peers, and staff. We strive to provide physical therapy in a way that is most effective and engaging for the individual. We emphasize play and fun while addressing gross motor and functional skills. This motivates your child to move for movement’s sake, as well as working towards functional skills.

Physical therapists also assist with a 24-hour positioning program so that your child will have a variety of experiences, sensations, and activities which also provide for healthy bones, contracture management, better posture, and improved cardiovascular and pulmonary health.

Our therapists are committed to keeping up to date with the latest clinical and scientific evidence to provide the most effective therapeutic interventions. We are members of and regularly attend conferences given by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM), and the Pediatric Complex Care Association (PCCA).
