For more than 80 years, St. Mary’s Home has stood as a cornerstone of compassionate care for individuals with complex medical needs in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Located in Norfolk, St. Mary’s has earned national recognition for providing exceptional medical, therapeutic, educational, and recreational support to eighty-eight children and twelve adults with multiple severe to profound disabilities. We are deeply proud of the meaningful impact our work continues to have on this extraordinary community.
Guided by our mission—“A good life: expanding horizons for individuals with diverse abilities through care, compassion, and community”—St. Mary’s remains dedicated to helping every individual reach their fullest potential.
Building on this legacy, we are thrilled to announce the opening of two new Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) in Virginia Beach. These new homes—known collectively as The Beach House—are designed in a duplex style and located near Town Center. They will offer specialized care and support for eight adults who require the expert medical and person-centered services that define St. Mary’s excellence.

We are eager to expand our reach and provide the outstanding care individuals deserve—and that is often so difficult to find.”
Since its opening in 2013, The Albero House, St. Mary’s adult wing, has remained at full capacity. The addition of The Beach House represents an exciting new chapter in our mission—one that allows us to touch even more lives, strengthen our community, and continue expanding horizons for individuals with diverse abilities across Hampton Roads.
